Story of Art Escape
Founded by Auckland-based abstract artist Amrit Kaur, Art Escape NZ is NZ's first messy art studio, offering a space where creativity is all about freedom, fun, and self-expression. Designed for those who want to play with paint without the pressure of following rules or painting a specific picture, Art Escape’s beginner-friendly workshops encourage presence, relaxation, and creative exploration. Aucklanders love these experiences as they provide an escape from comparison and expectation—allowing participants to immerse themselves in the process and take home a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Amrit’s own art practice is inspired by the slow moments in life, drawing from nature and human connection to capture the beauty in what is often overlooked. Painting is her passion, and Art Escape NZ is an extension of that—an opportunity to share the joy of creativity with others while building a creative career free from the pressure of selling artwork.

The Story Behind Art Escape NZ: Where Creativity Runs Free
Art has always been a form of self-expression, but somewhere along the way, it became something people felt they needed to "be good at" to enjoy. What happened to simply having fun with color, texture, and creativity—without worrying about skill or technique?

That question sparked the idea for Art Escape NZ.

Founded in September 2024, Art Escape was created to break the rules of traditional art workshops and bring a new kind of creative experience to New Zealand—one that’s all about having fun, letting loose, and making a mess (in the best way possible).
​
Instead of structured lessons, Art Escape offers interactive, hands-on art experiences designed for everyone—whether you’re an artist or someone who hasn’t picked up a paintbrush in years. From fluid bear painting to paint-filled balloon shooting, every session is about play, experimentation, and creating something uniquely yours.

We believe that art should be for everyone—not just those with training or experience. Our space is a judgment-free zone where creativity is celebrated in its rawest form. No rules. No expectations. Just you, the colors, and the freedom to explore.

Since launching, Art Escape has welcomed hundreds of guests looking for something fun, different, and stress-relieving—a creative escape from the everyday. Whether it’s a date night, birthday, team event, or solo experience, we help people tap into their creativity, have a laugh, and leave with something beautiful.
